Good evening everyone! Welcome to a new episode of “Stocks Today”, explaining what forces moved the stocks in the U.S. equity market today (Tuesday, January 26, 2021).
All main indexes closed slightly negative today. The S&P 500 closed down 0.15%, the Dow Jones down 0.074% and the Nasdaq down 0.073%.
Why did the stock market move today?
Stocks were mainly driven by earnings releases today, with several large-cap companies publishing their quarterly results and indexes influenced either by revenues or by revenue expectations.
Stock of the day
After reporting fourth-quarter revenues as high as $22.48 billion, beating expectation $21.66 billion, shares in Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) jumped 2.71% today and reached an all-time high. Investors are also looking forward to the results of clinical trials of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine next week.
